I appreciate what you say in this piece and largely agree, but the daily horrors faced by Palestinians—which make Palestinians around the world very much “not okay” as well—need not have been erased in writing it. The erasure of Palestinian perspectives is quite terrifying at this exact moment given what the Israeli government just threatened (genocide, quite literally).
Thank you so much for this post, Jay. This is such a traumatic time, the murders are so cruel, and the responses by people in my own "progressive" world are like a second blow. Also, I agree with most everything you said, except that I'm not sure these events will strengthen the current government in Israel. I think they will be blamed for the massive failure of intelligence and preparedness, much as in 1973. But meanwhile, a horrific war will soon overshadow the day of infamy.
