"Nothing that is worth doing can be achieved in our lifetime; therefore we must be saved by hope. Nothing which is true or beautiful or good makes complete sense in any immediate context of history; therefore we must be saved by faith. Nothing we do, however virtuous, can be accomplished alone; therefore we must be saved by love. No virtuous act is quite as virtuous from the standpoint of our friend or foe as it is from our standpoint. Therefore we must be saved by the final form of love which is forgiveness." Niebuhr
Thank you immensely for helping me engage with the provocative obstacles as I endeavor to bound over them. And for the just right music codas. BothAnd is a gift and a mantra.
This was.... just what I needed to read right now. Thank you for the thoughtful dialogue. It was like reading a list of various thoughts I've had at different points throughout this whole hellish political time, only much more articulate and well-researched.
Wonderful piece. A cathartic read, as I imagine it was for you, writing it. As a longtime student of Thomas Merton, it was refreshing to see his wisdom finding its way into our present moment of discord. Beware of Darkness, like a rich cup of coffee after a filling meal. Perfect.
Thanks Jay. It may not matter in this cosmic sense but what you’re saying speaks to what many of us are feeling, and that counts for something.
Thank you

"I'll see your Merton and raise you a Niebuhr" :-) Thanks
Thanks friend! I appreciate all of this, and especially the oscillation.
Truly loved your 45 list!
Best thing I've read in a long time. Thank you
Thank you, and thanks for commenting.

Thank you Jay. You contribute to positive karma. I think “it matters”.
Live your best life however you see fit. There is nothing else.
This was excellent. Thank you, Jay.
Thank you for so perfectly articulating the situation.
